Coca-Cola (Coke) is sold in 200+ countries, with 1.8+ billion beverage servings each day. Based on Interbrand's "best global brand" 2020 study, Coke was the world's 6th most valuable brand
The Origin
Colonel John Pemberton, wounded in the American Civil War and addicted to morphine, registered Pemberton's French Wine Coca nerve tonic in 1885. In 1886, during prohibition, Pemberton developed a nonalcoholic version his wine tonic, marketed it as "Coca-Cola: The temperance drink", and sold it as a patent medicine, claiming it could cure many diseases, including morphine addiction, indigestion, nerve disorders, headaches, and impotence
By 1888, 3 versions of Coke (sold by 3 separate businesses) were on the market:
- co-partnership between Pemberton and 4 Atlanta businessmen
- verbal statement given by Asa Candler claiming to have a stake in Pemberton's company as early as 1887
- an official "Coca-Cola" brand name that belonged to Pemberton's son Charley
When John Pemberton died suddenly in 1888, Candler took full control of the entire operation, despite rumors that bill of sale signatures had been forged. In 1892, Candler incorporated a second company, the Coca-Cola Company (current day corporation) and 2 years later Charley was found unconscious and died. Candler turned his $2300 investment into a $25 million sale to Trust Co (SunTrust) in 1919 and the rest is history
Criticism
In addition to controversies over adverse health effects (cocaine, HFCS, obesity, tooth decay, etc) and environmental issues (world's #1 biggest plastic polluter), the follow allegations were made:
- infamously told employees in February 2021 to "try to be less white" so they could be "less arrogant and defensive"
- sued for using Colombian contractors to kidnap, torture, and assassinated their Colombian bottler workers if linked to unions
- fired employees who refused to carry out illegal activities
- negotiated water concessions from the Mexican government, including the right to dump toxic waste into the waters and stealing clean water from indigenous aquifers and rivers
- using slave labor and child labor in El Salvador and China
- Illuminati practices
Blockchain Turnaround
- 2018 began implementing AIML for big data (https://www.nanalyze.com/2018/01/coca-cola-artificial-intelligence-big-data/)
- 2019 Coca-Cola and US State Dept Use Blockchain to Combat Forced Labor (https://www.investopedia.com/news/cocacola-and-us-state-dept-fight-forced-labor/)
- 2019 adopted SAP blockchain (https://www.ledgerinsights.com/coca-cola-sap-blockchain-bottling-supply-chain/) (integrated with IBM Hyperledger Fabric (https://t.me/QuantumStellarInitiative/9010)) for supply chain (immutable inventory and faster fulfillment). SAP (https://t.me/stellarrussia/521) and Accenture (both partners of Red Hat (https://t.me/stellarVBRF/250)) also use R3’s platform for real-time gross settlement (RTGS) solution, a critical overhaul of central bank settlements (connected to Hyperledger Quilt (https://t.me/QuantumStellarInitiative/9020))
- 2020 Leverages Enterprise Ethereum Blockchain to Optimize Supply Chain (https://blockchain.news/news/coca-cola-enterprise-ethereum-blockchain-optimize-supply-chain): Baseline Protocol was created by EY in collaboration with technology giant Microsoft (https://t.me/stellarrussia/502) (Azure Quantum (https://t.me/QuantumStellarInitiative/16422) partner of Red Hat) and ConsenSys and is specifically designed for enterprises to build on top of the Ethereum public blockchain. This not only streamlines the ability of internal bottlers-suppliers to provide products to the bottling network, but also external suppliers (e.g. raw materials vendors supplying cans and bottles) can benefit from an integrated, private, distributed integration network
- 2021 partnership with Salesforce (https://investor.salesforce.com/press-releases/press-release-details/2021/Coca-Cola-Bottlers-in-North-America-Partner-with-Salesforce-to-Power-Digital-Transformation/default.aspx) (partner of Red Hat)
